"Burning mouth syndrome" (BMS) – also known as glossodynia, stomatodynia or oral dysaesthesia is the term described by International Headache Society as an intra-oral burning sensation for which no medical or dental cause can be found.
Occasionally it is associated with dryness of mouth and taste changes.
A burning sensation on the tongue or other parts of the mouth may be a primary condition, or secondary to certain identifiable causes.

All the necessary tests to investigate any underlying causes that could lead to burning sensation in the mouth need to be performed and manage the burning sensation accordingly.
Blood tests, swabs or biopsy may be required.
Burning mouth syndrome may be controlled by drugs that calm the over sensitive nerves.
Psychological treatments such as behavior modification, biofeedback, hypnosis, cognitive behavioral therapy may be indicated in chronic issues.
